NASTY WOMEN NYC ART EXHIBITION

We are elated to share that we SOLD OUT the entire show. A total of over $42,000 in proceeds raised will go to Planned Parenthood. The Knockdown Center’s programing “Stay Nasty” also raised over $8,000 for smaller non-profits benefiting women’s rights, bringing the grand total to over $50,000.

 

It is because of you and your generous donations: 623 artists delivered work to the show. It is because of the 11 incredible organizers that saw a vision, worked hours and hours as a team to diligently see the plan to fruition. It is because of 100+ volunteers, who donated their time to assist. It is because we came together as women, in solidarity, that we sold 592 pieces of art to budding collectors-turn-activists.

On opening night, The Knockdown Center counted 2,240 people between the hours of 7pm-10pm. The overall attendance over the course of the show was 4600.

There were 444 works that sold opening night, bringing in a total of almost $35k in the first three hours of the exhibition.

Just as we hoped, the letter-walls became bare, exposing the interaction of the cash and carry system–all in support of Women’s rights. It was a brilliant sight to see the work dwindle and to hear the stories of collectors, finding just the right works for their walls or shelves–and supporting a cause. The energy in the space was positive, vitalizing, & uplifting.

Over 30 other venues around the world will continue to host their own version of Nasty Women to raise money for local organizations supporting women’s rights.  We are proud of everyone who was part of this movement!

Letter from Joan of Planned Parenthood:

Dear NW organizers-

You are all incredible! Thank you for organizing and executing the huge, impressive Nasty Woman Art Exhibit at Knockdown last weekend. I just heard you all raised over $42,000 to support the work and mission of PPNYC–to put it in perspective, PPYNC must raise over $11,000 per day to operate our health centers (to make sure that we turn no one away who wants services, regardless of ability to pay, immigration status, or age) and that number is only going to increase under the incoming administration. In effect, the NW crew have helped keep our centers open for four additional days and on behalf of the Board, staff, and patients, I can’t thank you enough. The press around this event has been wonderful, too.  I spoke with the staff and activists who attended the event and they had a great time talking with you and the attendees, as well as taking in the whole scene at Knockdown. These events are truly fortifying for us during this fraught moment–thank you for bringing us into your amazing world and helping us provide care, no matter what.  I hope we can work together again in the future!
